Consultant: ARUP
Contractor: Interserve
Description: As a specialist college of sports, Oldbury College of Sport needed a HVAC system to respond effectively and efficiently to ensure pupils could warm up or cool down and feel the effects almost immediately. SPCs Thermatile Plus Radiant Ceiling Panels provided the perfect solution, being easy to install and using no floor space. The radiant panels comply with the guidelines of Building Bulletin 87 (BB87) which states that radiant panels have a much faster response time and zero consumption of wall space. The guidelines also state that radiant panels have various advantages over long-lag systems such as underfloor heating, which are not as responsive and have much less controllability through the heating system controls. Oldbury College of Sport is part of Sandwell's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Program.

Description: SPC's MINIB trench heating has been installed alongside ceramic floor tiling in the elegant main showroom at the new showpiece head-office of Porcelanosa. Designed by Mitie Engineering, Porcelanosa was a massive project and we asked SPC because their products are good quality and very well priced, explained design manager Alan Munson. We opted for the SPC MINIB trench heating system with a natural aluminium finish to keep the showroom window free from condensation. As the quality and appearance of the ceramic floor tiling was crucial to the showroom the appearance of the aluminium grille with matching surround trim was very important. The width of the aluminium grille was specially selected to match in with the tile size.
